NICOLE NORVELL

Nicole began her undergraduate career as a legislative intern for former Kansas House member Eber Phelps where she drafted policy memos and assisted with direct communication with constituents as well as tracking relevant legislation.  In 2018 she worked alongside Kansas Governor Laura Kelly on her Gubernatorial race by utilizing online platforms and news outlets to expand outreach beyond target demographics.

Originally from Austin Texas, Nicole moved home during the Covid-19 pandemic where she was offered a Spanish Supplemental Instructor position. She facilitated and led her own Spanish classes, providing support to students surrounding course content and test preparation at Austin Community College while continuing her own college courses.

Nicole returned to the University of Kansas in 2021 where she was elected a leadership position in the University of Kansas Student Senate. She served as a student senator and wrote and helped pass multiple pieces of legislation that benefitted students throughout the University.

During this time, Nicole also began interning for Kansas’s 1861 Consulting where she observed Kansas legislative committee meetings, and documented and compiled necessary political data to provide client-focused information for the executive team. She was brought back in the Spring of 2022 to assist the 1861 team once again throughout the Legislative session.

Norvell is passionate about contributing to her Lawrence community and is an active animal foster parent and has fostered several animals through the Lawrence Humane Society. She recently completed her Bachelor's degree in Political Science Pre-Law with a double minor in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Kansas.
